Not what I needed. This is fora full size air compressor not air brush compressor. I am keeping it becase I may need it in the future. Looks like a solid piece of equipment.

Defective, 2 times already
The first one I received leaked air on the filter side. Try to wiggle, reset, re-lock it, no go. I had to send it back on my own dime, which I did not care for. Received a new one in a few days, but had to wait on the seller to get the defective one back. So this was a pain to deal with. Hooked the second one up and it did not leak. After a week of normal use the oil side started leaking air and oil. Now I have to send it back again, a second time. I'll be getting a refund. I'm dissappointed the seller was unwilling to pay for shipping. I'm out nearly $20.00 on this deal. What a loss. I would avoid I.R. and this seller.

You get what you pay for here.
Works well, looks good. Bowls are an easily detachable 1/4 turn lock style and don't leak air.

These are a stackable type design; by that I mean the oiler and the regulator/filter are individual units joined together by the aluminum rack mounting piece in the middle and an o-ring between them. Each end of each unit is also threaded, AND has a seat for the oring and tabs for rack mount coupler. You can separate them and use fittings between if you like, or put the oiler on the left. You could also add additional filters of the same form factor from IR by getting more of the little silver couplings between.

I like it and I trust the brand name, but its new and I can't comment on durability. Replacement filters are a few dollars-- I checked.

Best bang for the buck
I was disappointed to see that this item has been withdrawn. Perhaps related to the way they are shipped? I shopped around for a compressor that was relatively inexpensive yet had enough CFM for some of the more demanding tools like higher end painters and impact wrenches that need 5+ CFM at 90psi.

My compressor arrived today. Despite the box looking to be in good shape, I found a broken piece laying the the bottom of the box. After a bit of research I found it was part of the mounting bracket the holds the compressor to the frame. There are three of them, one steel, and two cast (pot?) metal formed with the casing. The piece that was broke goes over the rubber under it that helps with vibration.

I went to the web site to see about getting a replacement and noticed that the item was no longer available so they only gave me the option of a refund, not a replacement. I was very disappointed as I thought this was the ideal compressor for the price, especially...

Should have gone with a new unit
I didn't read the reviews here until after I the unit was already in process - I could not cancel the order. And the reviews here did make me worry - worry that I'd be getting a crappy refurb. Well, sadly, that is what I got. I don't have anything against refurbs or reconditioned items - I buy them frequently and save some money. I do have something against buying items that are misrepresented. And this one is grossly misrepresented. It doesn't look like the one in the picture. The one in the picture looks new. The one I received is battered and beaten and has been sloppily repainted. Sloppily repainted over the information and warning labels. The handle is difficult to get in and out. The pressure adjustment knob pops off by itself! All of the knobs, adjustments and fittings are extremely tight on delivery - difficult to get them to move or even working. The tank was delivered with pressure and water in it. It looks like it's seen a lot of use. I should have gone with...
So far so good
So I ordered this item twice. The first time it came it would not start, so I simply returned it with no problems. Thought over the decision again, and I just couldnt pass it up: the price was good for such a good unit. Well, the first one was definitely a lemon, as I received another reconditioned d55146 and it works like a charm. I still let it run for 15 mins with the valve open. I just used a small brad nailer with it...the thing barely flinched. fairly quiet for an oil-less compressor, quickly fills... the only thing I find a little cheap on the compressor is the knob to regulate pressure. other than that, its a solid compressor. i will update this if there is any future problems.

Good quality, but louder than expected
I just received this unit - about a week prior to estimated delivery - and must say I'm very pleased. The unit arrived via frieght carrier without notice (not good) so I was not able to request 'tail-gate' service in advance. Luckily, I was actually home and also luckily, the driver was willing to help me carry this 200# beast into my garage.

The unit was well packaged and assembly consisted only of attaching the wheels, handle, and air filters. Once assembled and positioned, I filled up the oil resevoir with the provided compressor oil, and fired it up. Pressure cut off is at 135psi, I it shut down and I let it sit overnight. By morning it was 100psi, so I'm thinking some teflon tape is in order for some of the fittings.

The only disappointment was that it was louder than I expected. Previously, I was using a small 3gal Craftsman that was as loud as a jack-hammer. The IR, while noticeably quieter, is still quite loud.

Great
We have had this unit for well over a year.We use it almost every day! Works flawlessly and very nice and quiet! We love it!
A smooth operator
I've had this compressor for a while now and I love it. I don't use it on 100% duty cycle, but it gets a fair amount of use and it has not let me down. The only thing I don't really love is that the CFM is a little lower than I'd like if I want to paint or go to town with a cut-off wheel. But other than that I love it. It is quiet enough that I can use it without worrying about about annoying the neighbors which is a huge plus since I do my best work at night when the kids are asleep. It is good quality and I'm really happy with the purchase.

I did have to pick it up from a freight company though since my neighborhood is a bit small for a 53' tractor-trailer to access. Not a big deal deal though honestly.

A lot of misconceptions regarding these products.
I just wanted to clear up some common misconceptions regarding these jump-start/inverter/inflator products. I personally own 3 different types from 400 watts to 1500 watts and have done tons of research on them. I guess you could call it an unusual hobby I have. I blame the manufacturers for over hyping these units or just choosing not to inform consumers of their limitations.

THESE UNITS ARE NOT AS POWERFUL AS YOU THINK! Most people seem to be very disappointed by the amount of "juice" these put out.

--FRESHLY CHARGED this item will probably run a small TV/DVD combo continuously for around 2.5 hours. That's it. Also, you can't run a coffee maker, hair drier, microwave, refrigerator or heavy duty power tool off this. It's just not designed for that kind of use. Buy this to run a small TV, fan or laptop for a few hours, or to charge your cell phone. That's all it's designed for.

--You probably won't be able to jump start an 8 cylinder engine with this...

The Electromate 400
I just purchased the electromate 400 a few days ago ....I charged it overnight then tested it on a few things. Obviously it will jump start a car since it is basically built around a car battery.

It ran my large box fan just fine. Also worked great when I plugged lamps into it.

I tried using it to brew coffee using my Mr.Coffee but apparently the amps being drawn by the water heating and also heating the hotplate under the pot was too much for it and it would just shut down after a few seconds every time I tried it. Too bad ! I suspect if you have a newer coffee maker with the insulated pot and no heated hotplate you might do just fine.

One thing I could not find much info on before I purchased it was just how long will it power ordinary household items during a power outage ?

To test this...with the electromate fully charged, I plugged a 13" color tv with a built in DVD player into the electromate, put a DVD movie in...and checked the...
Unimpressed
Bought this for jumping off my second vehicle which oftens goes several weeks without being driven and for powering small devices when camping. Worked fine for jumping off the vehicle; however, used the unit to power an electrically powered air mattress inflator and it did fine. Went to plug in the small fan and nothing. For whatever reason, the electrical outlets do not work now. Tried everything.

Follow up:
Just received my second unit. Charged it 24 hours. Plugged in regular size box fan and the unit's electrical outlet status light starts blinking green and shuts down after less than 2 minutes. Plugged in a small desk top fan and the same thing. Even plugged just my answering machine in and the same thing. Black and Decker must have issued a bad batch since most other reviews are positive.

Amazon has been truly amazing. They shipped the replacement model which I received three business days after filing for a return and even had UPS pick up the original...

Great little compressor
I bought this model in Dec. of 2009 and it's been a great compressor. I have used it mostly for the basic air hose or bike tire inflation. Plug it in turn it on and it pumps right up to what ever pressure you set it to. Very well made also.I had to give it a five star rating.

Great compressor the home
I use this compressor to air up tires on all our vehicles, motorcycles, and zero turn mower. It airs up the 20" tires on my large SUV (Mercedes GL450) in under a minute each. I have no doubt it'll effortlessly run air tools for the do-it-yourself home improvement types.
