Compressor Saver CSR U1 Hard Start Capacitor
Starting up is the hardest time in the life of any type of electrical equipment. Ever notice that light bulbs almost always burn out when you first turn them on and not while they are on? This is due to the huge current that rushes in when a switch is thrown and power is first applied. Your air conditioner uses anywhere from 5 to 10 times more power on start-up than it does while running. With this burst of power comes a surge of heat that accompanies the electrical current. This heat damages the compressor, the terminals, the windings and run capacitor - all vital components of your air conditioner. The 5-2-1 Compressor Saver® protects these components by significantly reducing the amount of time it takes for your compressor to start - in some cases up to 50%. This means your air conditioner and compressor will bear ½ the stress, strain and heat each and every time it starts. Considering that your air conditioner may start up more than 6,000 times in a single cooling season, the positive impact that the 5-2-1 Compressor Saver® has on your air conditioner is significant. Before you replace your air conditioner, try adding a 5-2-1 Compressor Saver®. The 5-2-1 Compressor Saver® might save you from having to outlay thousands of dollars to buy a new air conditioner or compressor. At a fraction of the cost, installing the 5-2-1 Compressor Saver® is a wise investment.

The best hard start kit - don't be fooled by 2 wire kits
This kit is great for any type compressor (scroll or reciprocating). Easy to install & will not harm compressor windings because of the lower capacitor rating (88-108uf). (If you need a Hard Start kit to try to free a stuck compressor you will need a kit with a much higher uf rating.) This kit lowered my start up amperage by 10 amps. If you are thinking of buying a 2 wire kit - think twice because most of them work on a thermistor and will only work once and not again until the thermistor cools down and on a hot day that could be awhile. Since a 2 wire type operates on temperature and not on the run speed of the compressor it could stay in the circuit longer than needed or not long enough. This 5-2-1 kit removes the capacitor from the circuit when the compressor reaches a certain speed which is done by the relay sensing voltage.

I emailed the company to ask a question about the type of relay that they used & received an answer back the same day from one of their...

Saved me a lot of money
Last year I had the HVAC guy come out and work on my AC compressor. He used a two wire hard start kit to get my compressor going and said that I had a "tight compressor". The compressor worked for the hottest months of the year then quit again. When it quit it took the contactor and the transformer with it. I decided to take a chance on this hard start kit. I replaced the contactor, the 115 volt to 24 volt transformer and I added this 521 kit. The compressor came on and I have had nice cool AC this summer.

I did a lot of research before buying the 521 kit. I would recommend that anyone who wants to install a hard start kit avoid the two wire kits. All the reading I did indicates that over the long haul they are trash. Spend a few extra bucks and get this kit. It works great.

BTW, My unit is a 2.5 ton residential unit.
It works
Dose what it claims to do and I did not need to hire someone to install it. It was easy, and I am not that technical , just follow the diagrams and you can't go wrong. I love this freakin thing!!!!!!
